    System restore points James

    Greetings

I made a manual system restore point, and then downloaded a program from the internet. And the program didn't work, so I tried to use the system restore feature to restore the computer to the point before the download.

And the system restore feature didn't work either. So I tried it with a restore point made earlier than the first one, and that one didn't work either.

    Help!

Which version and build number of Windows does Winver say you have? Are you on 1607? Is the error AppxStaging error 0x80070091? If so you are not alone. An update of the 'Get Office' app back in February is implicated in causing system restore to fail. There's a lengthy thread on this and some workarounds...

System Restore fails: AppxStaging %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApp 0x80070091

It was a minor inconvenience for me when system restore stopped working, mainly because I take regular system images and can restore that if an app install messes up the system. Thankfully since the Creators Update system restore is fully functional again.

An 3rd party AV can also cause it to fail.

And if you just want to uninstall the program, but can't, try a 3rd party uninstaller such as Revo.
