    Hi there

Much as I liked W7 I think (apart from a minor glitch or two) W10 performs much better in every way than W7 -- and it's even OK to run the 64 bit version on 2GB RAM (provided your CPU is 64 bit capable). !!! 4GB RAM would of course be better.

You can STILL update for ZERO EUR provided you have a fully activated W7 install --see my post in another thread on this section.

I would take Ten over Seven every time as well.

Don't discount the 32 bit (x86) version for a 2Gb system. I'm running x86 on a Core i5 with 4Gb ram and am surprised just how much 'lighter' the whole set up is. Around 20.5 Gb for the complete install, programs and data compared to around 27Gb for an x64 installation of identical structure.

Windows 7 is great for a older computer made to run it. On my new PC W10 runs great but on any computer not made for W10 a W7 or W8 machine it runs slower than the native OS. It was stupid for MS to push W10 on older hardware.

I love my Win10 installation, no problems and its faster and more secure. On this forum that's probably what you'll hear most. On 7 forums it will probably be a different story. Try it..... if its not for you you can roll back to 7 at any time within a month.

My second system is very 'low spec' (see 'My Computers' below this post). It has just 1GB RAM and a Celeron processor. It came supplied with OEM 32-bit Windows 7 and Office. I took the free upgrade to Windows 10 but have kept a system image of Win 7, so I can freely switch between versions.

If anything, it appears to run a little better under Windows 10 than its original Windows 7. Boot up seems slightly faster and the Office apps open faster. It runs the Creators Update with no apparent problems.

I can't even get W7 to install on my new AMD Ryzen based system.

My netbook with Atom N455 performs way worse with Windows 10, caused by GUI composition

    Totally disagree.

I have put it on several old pcs - without fail it runs better than tired old Win 7 on any of them. In some cases there can be issues but this is simply due to driver issues in most cases.

    Hi there
One problem with W7 that seems to be forgotten -- is how often you used to get that nag message when either shutting down or re-booting consisting of "Windows is configuring your computer -- please do not switch off"

Used to be really annoying - especially when say at work you wanted to go home and the office has a policy that all equipment must be switched off before you leave.

I think I can remember the Windows is configuring message would appear several times a week -- even if you hadn't installed any updates via Windows update.

W10 at least does its updates in a more orderly way - and certainly provided you've got rid of any bloatware on pre-installed systems runs a lot better than W7. I think though I still prefer the cleaner looking Menu screen of W7 --Hate all those stupid "Mobile phone" type of tiles with W10 on a DESKTOP OS !!!!. I've got rid of most of them !!

At least there's a proper cascaded menu type system - not that awful hideous almost infinite scrolls you had to do with W8.

I wish though the AERO Glass top type of background (VISTA) could be installed on W10 -- I like it much better than the "Darkish Zombie" type themes that seem to be so popular these days.

Coming up to retirement (at least from full time work -- love doing part time around 2 - 3 days a week now) I'm certainly not of the type that needs a "Darth Vader" type of background every time I use a computer !!!!!

    Cheers
