Windows 10 slow after manually updating to Creators Update

Thanks. I had the same issue and that fixed it for me. The issue started immediately after the Windows 10 Creators Update.

When opening directories with a bunch of photos in them I could count one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, one thousand four, one thousand five, one thousand six before the contents were displayed even with directories on my SSD. After changing the default program for opening image files the quick display of directory contents was restored.

Just run a defrag program like Perfect Disk 14 in trial mode as it will have messed your hard drive up as it sounds like a HDD ?

You can roll the update back you know as it is not compulsary on any machine yet also ?

You could also do a clean instal which would remove all the bloatware which comes with the machine ?

Where did you get the idea that Windows.Old cannot be deleted??

I just checked mine and it says I am also on 15063.138. Where is the .250 update? I ran check updates and it says I am up to date.

I even have tin foil around my windows to repel intruders. THEY must have uncovered a backdoor to circumvent my security. :)

I've tried the suggested fixes (Window Picture Viewer, etc.) and am still seeing the slow display, sluggish image display (tin foil hat not required

Even used Powershell to fully remove Photos. Am now uninstalling the latest version of CorelDraw (2017) that I installed around the same time as the CU. Will report if there are any breakthroughs.

Some have found the 'indexing' has had an effect- however Photos maintains its database of folders placed into Albums.

Well, after much experimenting I can say that setting my default to Windows Photo Viewer has done the trick. Opening a folder with hundreds of images is nearly instantaneous. If I set Photos as default for say, JPG, the very same folder (with thumbnails already cached) hesitates for about 2 seconds and then stutters to display as you scroll down the folder.

Just wanted to ring in that I noticed this myself, folders would take 2-4 seconds to load on average with just 30-40 images in them. It got worse if you tried to upload something from a dialog and that dialog would freeze for a few seconds.

I tried clearing space, cache, etc but nothing seemed to help so I used recovery to get off the Creator's Update and sure enough no loading anymore on folders. Hopefully they can fix it before they start forcing us on it.
