new to windows 10 question about maintenance

new to windows 10 and wondering how often one should run disk clean up and disk defragmenter to keep the computer in top condition as well as virus scans .

As for disk cleanup Windows 10 by default is set to do this weekly but may do it less frequently or more frequently dependent on usage. Have a look at Disk Properties, Tools, Optimize.

Most Virus apps run in real time now a days so weekly frequent definition updates should be your primary concern.

I use ESET SS v10, so I get definition updates at hourly or daily frequency (whenever definition is created or updated by ESET)

Great AV/Firewall, highly recommend it! Greetz

Defrag is only needed when using HDD's!

Optimize in Windows 10 on an SSD runs Trim not defrag.

I run both after installing Windows Updates (twice a month), since they mess up HDD a bit.

Yep, Windows 10 is a 'self maintaining OS' when run on SSD!
