Stuck at 2% when fixing disk

My system wants me to restart the system in order to fix the disk. Every time it restarts it gets to 2% and gets stuck there. I can avoid the disk check by hitting any key and the system proceeds to boot, but it keeps on asking me to re-boot, and will re-boot by itself if the system is left unattended getting stuck at 2% every time.

Is there a way to start a check disk while I am running W10, so that it does a check disk first and then re-boots?

You can open a Command Prompt (admin) and run:

    sfc /scannow

It's possible that will fix file corruption that is causing CHKDSK to hang.

I would strongly recommend you back up your data to a different, physically different, drive.

One man's opinion, your drive is failing. If you download and install CyrstalDiskInfo from Crystal Mark software if will give you a very quick assessment of your drive. I could be wrong. Watch all the links, you want just CrystalDiskInfo.

Do you have bootable media if you needed to reinstall?

    Agree with Ken.

Your system is telling you there is a problem with the hard drive. Backup your data ASAP. You could try running that check disk overnight and see if the system can remap any bad sectors. This could take hours and any fixes/remaps would probably be temporary for a failing drive.

You should definitely get your data backed up while you can.

Good advice guys. Backed up last night, and did a disk check. When I rebooted I got no check disk. Time to get a new computer anyway. Thanks all.
