    How to make a D:\ partition ?

I bought a new PC after my original PC crashed, apparently it no longer has a working internal drive.

The original files I need to recover were on two partitions, C\ and D\. So now when I boot up with the new Windows 10 PC, how can I set aside another D Partition?

Otherwise the recovery operation wont know where to put the D:\ files I had backed up before.

Is there a way around this ? I really need to get my D:\ files back, the others I can re-install.

Welcome to the forum. If you open disk manager then shrink drive c to the left by how much you need for d you can then create drive d in the now free space

    Hi,

I bought a new PC after my original PC crashed, apparently it no longer has a working internal drive.
You mean the drive is no longer spinning/dead ?

Otherwise the recovery operation wont know where to put the D:\ files I had backed up before.
To create a new partition right click the start/win logo and select "Disk Management" . Highlight your C:\ drive, right click it and select "Shrink Volume"
Choose the amount by which you want to shrink the partition.
Then you can create a new partition in the empty space and format it.

If Windows gives it a drive letter other then D:\ then you need to change the drive letter of the device that occupies that letter.

    Cheers,
