ISO advice on getting my system to run a manageable speed

I have these little meters in my task bar I installed that show CPU and RAM usage and both freak out over little actions taken by chrome browser especially like scrolling down a page or simply having a page open really, but I imagine it's just a general pc performance issue. I'm in the seemingly impossible process of removing windows defender, but I suspect that won't be enough, but should help. My PC is a few years old but it shouldn't be moving this slow. I mean, my phone destroys my PC. It's gotta be software related.

As I've always done I've reviewed all processes running and as usual I don't know what I'm looking at but it does appear it's mostly system processes and nothing foreign/unwanted. So I joined this site hoping to get some suggestions as this has been going on forever even back when I had Windows 7, though I think it's worse with 10.

    Defender:
    1. Install another AV. I've sometimes found Defender taking CPU resources in an uncontrolled way; installing Avast (free) works- light on resources.

Thank you. I've been to that page actually and many others and they all seem to go by the impression everyone has the pro version. I don't think there is a solution for the regular home version. Unless and hopefully someone would tell me wrong.

And yes, I was using avast before. I was just hoping to run NO antivirus. Tho I may use that just to turn off defender and have more control.

Next time I'm on my pc I'll get a screen shot. I use my phone whenever possible because it's way faster lol. The specs are the same actually, actually a gig more ram on the pc but I guess pc 's are more complicated.
    Thanks!

Hi, in the tutorial, did you read as far as using a reg file? That's for people who don't have Pro, for example. All the tutorials are arranged that way.

To make it easy, download Winaero's Tweaker (free) - very useful and reliable) and use the disable Defender option. There's a link which will show you how it works, again including the reg file.

I use Avast free - I don't notice it except for the odd pop-up - some are meant to be informative, 1 a day or so is advertising as you'll probably know.
