    All very good tools.

I use GetDataBack from Data Recovery Software Products - Runtime Software Products
It costs, but is easy to use. The plus here is that it let's you see what you can recover BEFORE you pay for it.
I purchased it years ago, and still use it now.

    data recovery

Hi everyone (well all those who posted on this thread). As one of you will be aware, Ive been stupid enough to lose a lot of very important data.
Recovery...emm .. like the saying goes "prevention" is better than a cure. too late now though.

I like ruccuva and have used it with some success for minor mishaps in the past, but it hasn't cracked my present dilemma.
I've looked at several tools over the last couple of days and bumped into JDC's GetDataBack Pro recommendation. It sounds good especially as "it SAYS" you can see what you'll recover before you buy the prog. You also only have to buy it once rather than renew a licence each month or year. this all sounds great DOES that make it too good? You know what they say about free lunches.. I'm not too bothered about renewing a license as this is the very last time i'm ever going to need such a tool. I'm going to stop being a tool myself, and wise up. Seems i remember saying something similar, about 30 year back when i over did the scotch, sfunny that was about this time of year too.

Well i just wondered if you guys, not JDC had given his recommendation a try or had any further thoughts before i give it a chance to impress me.

well,, im still here and still looking at recovery s'ware. JDcs Runtime recommendation sadly fails to cut the mustard as its own web site "press releases amount to nothing. Also my searches for other info on this prog have turned up next to nothing well not by way of "the best recovery tool is....from what i could find Stellar seems to come out near the top. Now i looked at that and thought that it asked for the money before i could see what id get by way of recovery. I'll inspect that avenue again.

For many users who came with data recovery requests, we first try freeware TestDisk. In cases where TestDisk finds the MFT corrupt but unable to repair it, we have as a last resort recommended Active @ File Recovery and Getdataback. They both work in the same way, are the best in class and safe to use since they only scan the drive and don't write anything to the disk. Many users have used it and were able to recover the data successfully.

Active @File Recovery USD 29.95 Find & Restore Lost Files: Undelete deleted files and recover damaged disks

Getdataback USD79 Data Recovery Software Products - Runtime Software Products

You can download and run the Demo versions. After scanning the drive the folders and files are shown Windows explorer style. You can preview/open/play each and every file and check the integrity.. If you are happy you can buy the license to copy the files.

    Recommended.

For undeleting deleted files one can first try the freeware TestDisk. TestDisk: undelete file for FAT - CGSecurity
( Do not get mislead by the title. TestDisk can "Undelete files from FAT, exFAT, NTFS and ext2 filesystem")

Hi Jumanji. Thanks for posting. Your text is very promising and i admit Getdataback sounds tempting. Yet a web site which shows links to press releases that are non existent, does little to inspire me. I looked further into it and couldn't find any recommendations on sites listing the "Best XX recovery software for the year 20XX".
Stellar which i downloaded and gave quick go, is I think priced at about the same and had several mentions.
There is also the consideration, as with so many "tools". Knowing how to use it (experience) can make all the difference to the end result, something which it sounds like, you may well be aware of. In my case after just a few days i've entered aspects of computing i didn't know existed and my head is beginning to spin. If i buy something which returns results i don't know what to do with, it'll be a waste.
I'm learning and I believe my folders/files are not deleted. It's just that I have first jumbled up the index then just to make matters worse, I've removed the jumbled index from the room (same as deleting, but worse i suspect ?). I know its in one of a couple of rooms and the doors are open but i don't know what the index looks like and because its been jumbled up it may not even look like that which i envisage. I'm starting in one corner of one room and trying to methodically sort through hoping not to disturb (jumble up further) something which may be what i'm looking for. Thanks again

you can see what you'll recover before you buy the prog.
    That is common.

I often suggest Active @File Recovery it seems to be one of the better ones and isn't as expensive as the others.

If it finds your data, then you need the license to recover it.

I believe my folders/files are not deleted.
In that case, it is unlikely you need a data recovery program.
