    Compatibility mode with low resolution????
Yes, Microsoft Basic Display Adapter https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...-on-windows-10 which would give you just 800 x 400 resolution.

That's not the greatest of resolution. Pretty poor really. At the moment I'm running both my monitors at 1920x1080 @60hz.
Could you please explain to why that could happen?

Because such a driver is very elementary, meant to run with any kind of GPU just enough to have a picture on the screen until proper driver is installed.

OK so this means that if I upgrade my GPU then I wont have this type of issue

Ok Great. You help has been great. What i tough I may do is to set up a dual boot so as i can see ant muck around getting used to Win 10 before I fully change over but before then use Win7 as my main OS until I feel confident with Win 10

It would be great if you could run it in Virtual Machine or install on some other disk if you have a spare one, doesn't have to be large one, even 80GB would do.

No worries there. Plenty of room on my USB drive. All I will need to do is create another partition and load it to there.

It's tricky to make Windows run of external drive.

Ok that's no real challenge, I can creat a partition on one of my HDDs if not enough space then migrate data to the USB drive then use the extra space.
