That doesn't look quite right, DDR2 RAM is usually also noted as PC2-3200. PC-3200 is the older DDR.

According to the manual at http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...421-a8v_vm.pdf it shows 3 types of the Athlon CPU plus the Sempron CPU, the Opteron is not mentioned. I always considered the Opteron to be comparable to the Intel Xeon CPU, more for Servers. Note: the AMD Sempron is comparable to the Intel Celeron.
    OK, 4 x 1 Gb DDR PC-3200 400 Mhz,
Opteron 180 is supported, I'm sure.

But what about my question ?
Do you think Win10 installation is possible on these old PC bypassing or not NX/PAE support test ?
    How to proceed ?

    Thanks for your support.

Anything that can run Windows 7 (32-bit) can also run Windows 10 (32-bit) although I'd highly advise 3-4GB of memory minimum with Windows 10 on older hardware if possible or you'll have to live with the pagefile being used all the time, 2GB of memory is just not enough even for Windows 7 (32-bit) on older hardware and considering Windows 10 has new potentially memory hogging features like Virtual Desktops and desktop Metro Apps 3-4GB of memory minimum is highly advised even on the 32-bit version of the OS.
    Hello,

I have 2 old PC on witch I would like to install Windows 8.0/8.1 or better Windows 10 (mounting Win10 32 bit image setup to an empty NTFS partition, no upgrade from earlier version).

    My configurations are :
    PC-1
    Motherboard : Asus A8V-VM socket 939 for Athlon 64 [FX], 64 X2, Opteron 180 CPU - XP Drivers only available !)
Chipset NVIDIA GeForce 6150 / nForce 430 MCP
    CPU : AMD Athlon64 3500+
    RAM DDR PC3200 400 MHz : 4 x 1 Gb
HD : Seagate 1 Tb Sata III 6 Gb/s 7200 rpm 32 Mb cache plugged in Sata II motherboard connector (3 Gb/s)

I'm not a computer geek . I am running windows 10 on an ACER 5315, with 3Gb ram. I think 2007 vintage. Browsing is not a good experience though. Not infrequent message waiting for script. I presume not enough ram and the system is waiting for my disk drive to finish doing something. Not sure how to better my situation except get a SSD. Or perhaps some extra USB memory.

Can you provide any link that show that information? I've looked at several reference pages without finding any data in the affirmative.

As for installing the only advice one can give is to try it. When I do it I change the HDD so as to maintain an easy return to what previously worked.

    Hi everyone,
Just thought this might be interesting to some people: I am typing this from Windows 10, the final release, from an old Opteron system that was working on 8.0 (but failed the 8.1 update test). I did an inplace upgrade to Win10 32 bit and all is working well so far.
PS. I have not tried a clean install yet.
PS. I have 8gb of ram but pulled 4gb out since 64 bit is not an option. I know it is not ideal, but it is fast enough on 32bit since memory management is so much better than on Win7. So I'd much rather run Win10 32 than Win7 64 since that was unstable with NVIDIA graphics.

I have an old AGP card, Nvidia 6200, I downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers (390 I believe) and those worked.

    My specs:
    Tyan Tiger K8W
    dual 250 Opteron
    Nvidia 6200 AGP
    Raptor 36gb WD

For the record, the system feels faster than a recent quad core build with 4gb of ram and a samsung Evo 850 120Gb SSD! So there is life in these opties yet
    I think I built this originally in 2005ish!Attachment 26797Attachment 26800

As far as I know, Opteron processors can't work on Athlon MBs.

Now this is rather old. I can't think of an older system running Windows 10 without hacking the kernel to bypass NX/PAE support test. Even if the CPU might support 64-bit, because the system is too old, it had very low RAM and there are no 64-bit drivers, I installed Windows 10 32-bit. I did it to test if Windows 10 can be installed in that old system. Of course to be able to run the setup I borrowed an 1GB DDR SO DIMM module from another old laptop.
(The other laptop had 1GB RAM but only an Intel Centrino CPU that did not support NX/PAE. I could hack the kernel and install Windows 8/10 there, but that doesn't count. Also because the onboard graphics was Intel GMA 855G, there is no WDDM driver and it was VERY slow with Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, so yet another reason to stick with Windows 7 32-bit. As already said, hacking the kernel doesn't count.)
So, back to the HP Pavilion laptop... It is an HP Pavilion zv6000 series with the following specifications:
    Type: Notebook
    Manufacturer: Hewlett Packard
    Model: HP Pavilion zv6201cl (P/N: EC367UA#ABA)
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.00 GHz (Venice) s939
Chipset: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M (RS480M), AMD Hammer IMC, ATI SB400
    RAM: 512MB (2x 256MB) DDR-266MHz PC-2700 SO DIMM
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200 (RS480M) 128MB
    Audio: Conexant 20468 @ ATI SB400 - AC'97 Audio Controller
LAN adapter: Realtek RTL8139 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
Wireless adapter: Broadcom BCM4318 802.11b/g Wireless Network Adapter
Modem: Conexant 20468 @ ATI SB400 AC'97 Data Fax SoftModem with SmartCP
IEEE 1394 (Firewire) adapter: Texas Instruments TSB43AB22 1394A-2000 OHCI PHY/Link-Layer Controller
Card Reader: Texas Instruments PCIxx21/x515 CardBus Controller (SD/MMC cards)
    Touchpad: Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
    Here are the screenshots:

About drivers: For the graphics card I installed ATI Catalyst 7.2 suite for Vista 32-bit (WDDM 1.0). So I have some little acceleration, but ATI Control Panel doesn't work because of some incompatibility. For other devices I used Vista 32-bit drivers. I might have used an XP driver for a couple devices that don't have a Vista driver, but I am not sure... Of course this is VERY slow to be usable. I did it as a test to see if it was possible to install Windows 10 in such old hardware. If I want to use it I have to borrow the 1GB DDR SO DIMM module from another laptop to increase the RAM to 1.2GB. By doing that, it starts to respond better so with enough patience can be used. But with the original 512MB RAM you need A LOT more patience!
Can you beat me? Do you have something older "running" (crawling) Windows 10? Let's see it!
