Windows 10 makes my HD work and work and work and work

What on EARTH process is always running in the background to make my hard drive chatter away for literally nearly 3-5 minutes after a bootup...and we're talking with a FRESH install!....Some something is running a LOT in the background but task manager is absolutely worthless in pointing out what is going on...It even gets to the point where , after having the Edge browser opened and perusing the internet for awhile, things get so bogged down, and windows is too stupid to tell me exactly WHY it's bogged down, things get to where even a mouse click is delayed upwards of 10 seconds! lol. Sometimes things completely freeze and pushing the reset button is the only way out...I've gone as far as downloading Avasts 'emergency startup' disc and booting from it , thinking there might be a virus, but it found nothing (although I'm wondering if it's loading a small portion of windows, which if it is, and a virus or malware is in that small portion, booting to the disc and running the anti-virus software is pointless...maybe I should try it with a linux based emergency disc?) ....

Nonetheless, please post a screenshot of your task manager, processes using most disk at the top. Else we're just guessing - thanks.

Try 'process explorer' by Sysinternals (Microsoft). This should give you a more detailed view.
Note: if system or svchost.exe are the processes using disk, you will need to do more technical analysis.

Is there any change if you do a clean boot?
