Hi, @Kbird ... I was working on 8.1 Patch Tuesday stuff.
To use one of Gelo31415's examples, it is:
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{9CA88EE3-ACB7-47c8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
I've never had to change ownership on the Com Server CLSID, only the AppID. The Com Server has no permissions, per se, in DCOM Components, only the APPID. The Com Server application invokes (runs) the APPID and you need to have the proper permissions to locally activate that APPID or the Com Server App throws an error.
Yes, it's confusing. MS does their best......
TCCode:The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
