different amount of space used in Two Windows 10 PC system drive

I have two PC running Windows 10. Both installation were done around 1 Year Back and both are routinely updated. Both were upgraded form Win 7 Professional. One thing is strange that there is a difference of around 8 GB of space used in their System Drives. I have deleted Windows old through Disk Cleanup from both PC and even Previous Installation files are deleted from both PC. I regularly use Ccleaner. The Program files and Program files (x86) folder on both PC is nearly same size( not having much difference. Even Windows folder on both PC are near same size. Then why there is a difference of 8 GB of the space used in both PC System Drive. One PC is showing space used 25 GB and other showing 33 GB.

    Hi,

I've come across similar issues (if you can call it an issue) on installs of the same version of Windows in the same machine.

If you have different amounts of RAM in the machine then the swap file size will likely be different for starters.
Win10 also tends to reserve space for software that it thinks will need more space later on.

Frankly I can't explain it all but as I noticed the same as you (although to a much lesser extend) I thought I'd chime in.
Hopefully someone pops up with a plausible explanation.

    Cheers,

You would have to run a tool like windirtree to work out differences.

You should be able to find out what that extra 8 GB went to. Right click on drivers than folders than subfolders to see file size and go from there. It won't take long to see which folder in your system has those extra files. Check system restore, that was the first thing I thought of. I'm not exactly sure when it creates a restore point. Something like that could be the extra 8GB. You have 2 PC's ran by different people or both by you. User A and User B. 8GB isn't a big worry for me though. That's like a new release High Quality movie size with extras

O.K , I figured it out. In PC where more space is used- there is one folder $Windows.WS and that is of 5.6 GB. And then there is difference in size of pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys. So after deleting this $Windows.WS folder, my both PC will have near same space used in System Drive.
But one question again that why this folder is not present on other PC. One thing is that I may have deleted this on that PC and now I forgot that this has been deleted by me earlier. Any views in this regard is welcome.

    Hi,

That's a folder that was left behind from when you upgraded from your previous OS (I guess win 8 or 8.1)
