This is from Premire Pro CS6. "RAM reserved for other applications" is stuck at 3GB due to idle usage.

Thus, it needs to be lowered. I find new Windows OSs to be very wasteful compared to XP, which I actually have idling in a virtual machine at 512MB, which is perfect. This waste results in poor performance on older machines that upgrade to Windows 10. Thus, that machine is staying on XP until I can find out how to match it's RAM usage.

You can use CleanMem Free - set its task to run every 5 mins to get as much free RAM as possible.
    This is very useful, thanks.

Have you understood any of the posts here?

Explian why you need to reduce the memory?

You seriously do not understand the way memory works. Besides, this is in direct opposition of Adobe's recommendations.

Please try recommended memory settings for After Effects CS5 and give feedback. | Creative Cloud blog by Adobe

They recommend leaving 6GB for other applications when you have 16GB.

We’re now recommending much higher settings for the RAM To Leave For Other Applications and Minimum Allocation Per CPU preferences. If you start with these numbers both quite high, you will avoid the problems of swapping memory to the hard disk (which is a real performance killer) and starving the background rendering processes such that they shut down and don’t do anything.
This setting is not what you think it is. It's the setting that tells Adobe apps how much memory to allow for other apps so that they do not get starved.

Adobe is trying to make sure people don't experience slowdowns so they make the buffer huge on purpose. Similar to what GPU vendors do with PSU requirements.

Reserving memory for applications that do not need to be ran/are useless/etc slows down productivity. It allows for wasteful services and programs to continue existing in the background, and this is fundamentally inefficient. Thus, I'd like idle RAM usage to be down to 1GB or 1.5GB ideally. In addition, that is from CS5. CS6 uses GPU hardware rendering.

Instead of arguing semantics you might suggest which services to disable if I want more idle RAM, what windows features to turn off, what startups to disable, etc.

You could disable things but that won't gain you any measurable let alone noticeable performance.

Windows 10 has very efficient memory management. But efficient use of memory does not necessarily mean using as little as possible. What it really means is using what you have to gain the best performance. They are by no means the same thing. The former idea was obsolete more than 20 years ago but unfortunately that is the idea that so very many people have. If you are willing to open your mind to other ideas I will gladly explain further. Otherwise I see little point in continuing with this thread.

    Add another 16GB of RAM.
