By your system specs, you only have 2 GB of RAM. You need more for playing media seamless other wise you will get a lot of buffering. First the player is loaded into RAM, then the data to be played is loaded, at the same time you have to have room for system processes.
I guess your system is paging to the disk(virtual memory) and that is slowing everything down.
You should atleast double the RAM up to 4 GB, the sweet spot these days though, is 8 GB, for multitasking(surfing, playing media, using an office program at the same time).

    Hi there

probably poor / slow HDD's here -- I often find it amazing but people spend $$$'s, £££'s €€€'s etc on CPU's, RAM etc and then scrimp on HDD's. Poor I/O will KILL even the fastest system. If you have the fastet internet on the planet and a mega SUPER computer you will still be twiddling your thumbs if the Disk I/O is poor.

I assume the machine you are running on does have sufficient power to play video -- even 1080p full HD ripped blue ray (around 3GB with a decet quality RIP) plus subtitles should play decently fast on a modest laptop with decent SSD or HDD - USB3 HDD's are OK too (usually).

Lack of RAM will of course exacerbate any slow HDD performance --you really should up the RAM to 4GB minimum for any sort of decent video playing - it's usually simple to add more RAM to a laptop even if its only got one slot - 4GB laptop RAM modules are common enough these days. Ensure though it's compatible --if it's a really old laptop that uses DDR2 RAM then you are hosed - as I don't think DDR2 modules for laptops were ever made in 4GB modules --and even for desktops the older DDR2 memory is actually MORE expensive than the more modern type. Check that your new RAM is compatible with the machine though.

    Cheers
