    File History - Duplicates

So I've become suspicious on why my 3TB HDD all of a sudden has got around 900GB left, even though I have around 300GB of user data (Most not updated regularly).

So I turn to file history and try to figure out what the hell is going on and have realized this thing is duplicating files when they have not even be modified! I have searched Google and apparently seems to be a bug.

I've got family photos and videos (Which were added and last modified around two years ago), file history has gone and added like 10 copies of each! Meaning something which should take 10GB of space take 200GB!

is there any work around to prevent these duplicate files being made?

I made a topic about a month ago, about backup software, Solved Backing up software required (Does 7 backup still work?) - Windows 10 Forums

I eventually did go back to File History for one last try, but now I have actually confirmed this sh** is making load of duplicates.

I've been having the same problem since Win 10 launched and there seems to be nothing you can do about it unless Microsoft fix it and the settings/control panel. You can try to include and exclude specific folders from the backup, but the changes never stick. You can even have the same location in both the include and exclude lists and the system doesn't even blink. There are many, many reports of the problem in the Win 10 feedback tool going back to launch and obviously it's still a problem: MS should be aware, but they've clearly given it very low priority for fixing.

I've basically resigned myself to going in every few weeks and deleting everything I don't want backed up, since I still want the system backing up the rest of my files. It's utterly ridiculous that the system takes 10-15 backups of files that never change, like MP3 and FLAC files in my case, and yet seems to manage appropriate backups of files that do.

I had this problem in Windows 8.1 and the same issue continues in Windows 10. I found the fix below works for a while in Windows 8.1 before FH may start copying unchanged files again:

    1. Stop FH
    2. Delete FH config files at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration
    3. Restart FH and select to use the same backup drive as before

Hi, I could recommend you to use Dulpicate files deleter,it is very simple to use. But make it sure to keep the important files in back up. Thanks.

I would the Advanced Options in FH to delete all but the latest version.
