Windows 10: Is my cpu tempurature too high?
Is my cpu tempurature too high?
I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz cpu and an app called speccy is telling me that the tempurature of it is 77 °C!
I looked it up and it said that the max temperature should be around 60. My pc is quite old and a bit dusty, but I didn't expect that!!
Speccy is inaccurate. I suggest trying SpeedFan: Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer
Works a lot better. If your max CPU temp is 60C, it would force your entire system to shut down before it reaches that threshold.
Ok, will download that now
Plus we need to establish it's the CPU core, or the socket temp being reported here.
If your max package temp were 60, your CPU cores are running higher than that when the package reaches that temp, would definitely throttle before that point.
But you have to look at the temp while it's under load.
Use a small air compressor, or a can of compressed air and blow out the dust from the CPU heatsink and fan. Typically this needs to be done every 6 months here.
Heat is the major cause of system failure and slowdowns.
Motherboards are designed poorly, and there is little consideration for dust buildup which will invariably overheat components.
Dont forget to blow out the power supply.
A simple dusting can reduce temps by 40F or more.
Since upgrading from windows 7 to 10 my pc has been slowed down to a crawl by periods of very high cpu usage. A major culprit, but not the only one, is local security authority process.
This makes the laptop overheat , reduces battery life and...

most of the time i have ram usage like 40-60, but all of the processes are using like 400 mb and i have 4gb ram.
On normal, it stays on 60-70, maybe 80 sometimes, but as soon as I start something that's graphics related, it kicks up to 90s. The fan really starts to kick in when about 93 degrees are reached, but it doesn't go down unless I stop the graphics...
