I just wanted to say thank you for pointing out that the issue was AV related. I recently reinstalled my computer installed a new wireless card, and for the first time, Avira antivirus. When the stuttering began I thought it was due to the new wireless card not being able to handle the load (previously I had wired connnection), but it became very annoying recently. I even couldn't watch a youtube video for more than 5 minutes without the sound being delayed.
Having read this thread I removed Avira, and the problems were gone immediately. Now I'm using Windows Defender AV and so far it works like a breeze.

In case anyone with a Lenovo laptop searches up this thread, you should know that Lenovo Vantage/Lenovo WiFi Security seems to be able to cause this issue, even if you don't have it enabled. So if you have a Lenovo computer and are having this issue, uninstalling Lenovo Vantage might solve your problem.

Hello everybody, I just registered in this forum to help anyone as you helped me a lot!!

I spent over a week looking for a solution, did all the steps (drivers, updates and so on even antivirus, malware, ccleaner, everything) and nothing worked for me. But I resigned and continue working without surfing the web, cause my pc worked fasts as hell.

    My symptoms:
    1. Hyper lag while surfing the web (tried 3 or 4 web browsers: firefox, chrome, edge, opera) nothing worked.
    2. Sound glitches, lags, distortion (spotify, youtube, etc... just surf and got glitchy)
    3. Frozen screen about 10 seconds so far...

My solution if this helps anyone:
Since I saw your discussion and look for the "web surfing shields" I started to look forward the antivirus "Avast"... tried to disable it and surf, but nothing, the same problem... So I decided to uninstall it, and that's it.
I tried to figured out where is the damn configuration of web shields... but i get mad and finished uninstalling (was bored from their spam...) an this worked for me (also uninstalled Zonealarm)

Thank you guys, you helped me a lot!!!

Note: Not windows 10 fault I think. cause everything works really fine and fast now as always, maybe an update of avast was the problem.
PD: LatencyMon is a great tool!

Hi @DomingoPS and welcome to tenforums.
In my personal opinion, if you're looking for free AV, Windows Defender combined with Malwarebytes free edition (with manual scans for malware) will be your best bet.

So, I've been searching for a solution for this same problem.

My solution: I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and all was crisp again!

Thanks all! this thread has helped the most of all I have seen!!

    fixed my issue

Check, if you still have drivers that you reinstalled. Windows may overwrite them. If so, that can be possible solution, since you can block new driver installation. Descriptions are here in Ten Forums.

This may be old thread but if i am transfering like 1 tb of data from the nas to my desktop while gaming it stutters like crazy to with nod32 altho if not figured out what causes it yet in nod32, i do not even run nod32 internet security with its own firewall, anyway uninstalled it tested and no issue even with newer lan drivers, seems odd to me that this is non issue with windows defender, i just tryit disabling protocol filtering they suggested turning off firewall inside nod32 altho that does not apply since i do not even own nod32 anti virus + security, even turning off everything except hips i tryit no effect.
Games feel smoother to play even without transferring files, i don't trust nod32 one bit anymore, think im done with them i'll stick to defender.
