"System and Compressed Memory" going to 40% CPU in Win10

    Hi,

I know this problem is caused by the latest GeForce driver, I was hoping someone could tell me which version introduced the issue. I have Win10 64-bit on an i5, 16 GB RAM, GTX 570, OS is installed on a SSD. Everything was working fine with Win10, games, apps, ran smoothly and was fast. I have been playing Far Cry 3 and getting 60 FPS. Today I decided to upgrade to the latest Nvidia drivers to see if I could squeeze out a few more FPS (just for fun, didn't really need them). Bad idea. As soon as I installed the Mar 28 2016 GeForce drivers, FC3 lagged like crazy. FPS would jump from 2 to 184 back to 2. The game was super-laggy, unplayable. I spent all day googling, changing options, rebooting, etc... Nothing. Every time I tried to play FC3, I couldn't even launch my previous game it was so laggy. I noticed "System and Compressed Memory" was eating up at least 40% CPU and I knew that was new. That was taking even more than FC3.

So finally I uninstalled the latest Nvidia drivers, which means my system went back to the default Win10 drivers. That worked, system was back to running smoothly. FC3 was back to a constant 60 FPS. I found a forum post which indicated another poster thought it started when Nvidia came out with "Tomb Raider-ready" drivers in Nov 2015. Does anyone have more information about this issue? I would like to get the GeForce drivers back on my system, or at least the latest ones I can before they introduced this issue.

    Thanks,
    R.

I have 364.72 installed and I haven't noticed anything fancy. System and compressed memory is using 0% CPU and 0.1% memory. Maybe I am being lucky because it's true I have notice several weird things with latest nVidia drivers (nvidiacpl.dll not registering and such). Running w10 x64 [10586.164] with a GTX 970.

I installed the 358.87 drivers from Nov 4 2015. Those ones do not introduce the "System and Compressed Memory" FPS issue. You can find archives and beta drivers here in case anyone has this issue : Beta and Archive Drivers | NVIDIA

nVdia should take a look at this issue.

Any indication of what is triggering this? I have a 5 series 560, and the same post Tomb Raider drivers are causing the high System and compressed memory cpu, blocking one core of the processor and hugely lagging the system.

Has anyone had any luck with later drivers?

Just tried the latest drivers (365.19) and the issue is still present. Videos in web browsers seem to trigger it. Closing all instances of the web browser seems to temporarily fix it. Will probably stick to 358.97 and turn off Windows Update for drivers.

Thanks for the update. I was considering trying the latest drivers, but I won't bother now. I am still running the ones I downgraded to, version 358.87. I tried a number of newer drivers a month or two ago, but all have the same issue so I went back to the 358.87 drivers.
