    100% CPU Usage

I just had a strange event. My laptop's CPU usage hit 100% and stayed there, and the fan came on even though the CPU and HD temps were normal (CPU 44-47C, HD: 39-42C). Any thoughts on what happened? Restarting seems to have fixed it, at least temporarily. I'm doing a virus scan, and I'm going to start going through the logs, but I could use some advice about which of the vast number of logs I should start with.

Edit: NOD32 and MalwareBytes both say no threats, malware, etc.

Take an image of the machine and then try this as in an administrator cmd prompt...reboot once done.

Run the following commands, and press Enter after each command:

    Net stop wuauserv

    cd %systemroot%

    Ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    Net start wuauserv

Can I store the image on the same partition as the OS? That's the only place with enough room.

No that is not a good idea.....external drive or a 2nd internal drive, or, a USB memory stick.
