If you have the Tech Bench ISO file downloaded, then right click at it > click Mount > leave it there

Then open the elevated command prompt and copy and paste this................

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Note : H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.

When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.
Now run the sfc /scannow again. It should be ok this time.
As soon as I had posted I realised the error I had made.....being so used to my other computers with multiple drives I assumed wrongly that because this computer only has a single drive the image would be on "C".....but it has created a separate "D" drive.
I live and learn....must switch off now but will try your method later and post the result.

Thankyou for the information. I think that is pretty close to what I did in the end. There was that funny business of having to run sfc /scannow more than once though.

On restarting found I had a very large update which altered my setup somewhat.
"D" was removed which contained Wim....see attachments.....fortunately rerunning scannow proved clean.

PS....the large update consisted of removal of language pack in WIM iso.

I asked you to download the iso file from Tech Bench which will provide the Install.wim instead of install.esd.

    Did you do it ?
When I did this, the disk image was from the Technical Preview build.

Tech Bench does not provide Insider Preview ISO.

Did you use this link :

May I suggest that you start a new thread for yourself.
Explain your problem from the beginning so that we know how to help you.
This one is too long and old.

It's noted in other threads here (as I've seen the same) that Microsoft simply neglected to update that ISO for build 10586 when it was released to modify the description. Here's how mine looks:
DISM unable to locate Install.wim file-screenshot-13-.png
Not to worry, it IS the public release version.

Sorry for bumping, but maybe this information will be handy for someone. I ran in the same issue as OP, and as well as OP I was able to repair the image using WIM image from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench iso instead of ESD image from Media Creation Tool iso. Image version is 10586 and I tried ESD file from the same Media Creation Tool iso I've installed my Windows from. So, it seems repairing image from ESD is somehow broken.

I concur that getting the ISO from TechBench seems to be the way to go. I had no problems using that as the source.
