So if the DVD caddy was the culprit and it was affecting the bios I guess there is no way to get it working properly?
The only way to fix it would be changing the BIOS which I would not know how to do.
Sometimes the most straightforward approach is best. From your original description it wasn't clear how long it was between changing the disk config and your problem appearing.
Maybe you could post on your manufacturer's site.. or check for a solution posted.
If your drive's connection is SATA you might have a mismatch between IDE and AHCI configuration in your BIOS (or is it UEFI?)
