    Corruption in Windows 10

I recently purchased an all in one HD PC which has windows 10 as its operating system. When trying to set up broadband connections and email accounts I have encountered problems. Technicians in both cases said there were probably corrupted files in the system. Another problem is the when the computer goes into sleep mode or is shut down the modem also switches off. I have been told by Telco technician that the modem is ok. It is only connected to PC by Ethernet cable.

Hello, Mary. Welcome to the forum. :)

You may want to follow these two tutorials by Brink. Use DISM commands to at least check the Windows component store to see if it is healthy. If not, use it to fix. Then use SFC commands to fix file corruption.

Is it your modem or router that you're having problems with?

The router seems to be working and the modem was passed as OK by Telco technician but when the PC goes into sleep mode, the lights on the modem all switch off as though its been shut down.

Methinks it's supposed to be like that otherwise any activity would wake computer up.

You're quite welcome, Mary. Glad it helped. :)

You'll want to listen to Mike with his advice. Much more knowledgeable, especially with hardware.

Thanks Count Mike. My modem, which runs on my Windows 8.1 doesn't do this and the Telco technician said it shouldn't be happening.... I was wondering if there is an issue with Windows 10 and if there are any "patches" which can be downloaded....

There is one thing you can try. If you go to Control Panel > Power options > Your power plan > Change plan settings > Change Advanced power settings, find your modem there and change it's power status so it's always on.
