HELP - System and compressed memory constantly at 35% CPU

    Hi,

I an=m having an issue with System and compressed memory constantly using at 35% CPU, resulting in the fans on my laptop running all the time and being very noisy.

    I have read:

Solved Is this normal? System and compressed memory process ALWAYS at 20% cpu - Windows 10 Forums

Why is using so much CPU?? SB, th2, all updated and indexing done. : Surface

System and Compressed Memory Service High CPU Usage - Microsoft Community

and i have also tried adjusting the pagefile from system managed to Initial 2Gb and Maximum 8Gb, and disabling sleep.

But nothing i do seems to stop this usage, some people seem to report that it goes away after 30 minutes or so, or rebooting a few times seems to sort it out, but nothing seems to be working in my case!!!

I am running a genuine copy of windows 10 Pro

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.
Anyone attempting to help may appreciate a little elementary clarification:
    1. Have you previously run Win 10 without this problem for some time or have you always had this problem since installing Win 10?
    2. If you previously did not have this problem, what recent changes have there been?
    3. Did you upgrade or do a clean install, and roughly when?

    Thanks

I have this problem too and it's driving me nuts. Its draining the battery quite quickly when the laptop should be idle.

Question: Are you using an SSD? I'm wondering if that's related to my issue.

    Hi Quarryman, welcome to tenforums.
Again- anyone attempting to help may appreciate a little elementary clarification.

Your question is a good one.. and please therefore also complete your system specs (There is a tutorial on this if unsure).

If you have both experienced this
    a. from clean install
    b. from the first point you installed Win 10
then it points away from any 3rd party issues, leaving drivers and hardware (e.g.).

So I hope you can answer these questions to help anyone attempting to address your problem. Thanks.

    1. Have you previously run Win 10 without this problem for some time or have you always had this problem since installing Win 10?
    2. If you previously did not have this problem, what recent changes have there been?
    3. Did you upgrade or do a clean install, and roughly when?

    Idea:
    See
How to disable Windows 10 ? - Super User
and follow the ideas on analysis using Sysinternals Process Monitor.
You may find Process Explorer useful too.

Do you have Spotify installed and running on your system? Lately I have been having this same issue ever since doing the fall update of Windows 10. I have found that this usually occurs when Spotify have been open for a few hours then it can suddenly start to use high cpu like 25% and when that happens also the system and compressed memory process also can be using high CPU up to 30%. If I close Spotify then this process returns to normal CPU use within a few minutes.

Why Spotify is causing this issue I do not know! I have had high CPU usage issues with iTunes ever since version 11 and also in Windows 8.1. But now since the fall update of Windows 10 I am starting to have the same issue even in Spotify. The thing they have in common are that they are both music players. Very strange this...

I am having the same issue.

I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 10 again to get off insider builds about a month ago.

Have tried various "fixes" I found, from disabling the page file, to increasing it, to uninstalling the realtek sound drivers.

It's been doing this since when I reformatted but I installed everything I use on a regular basis that day as well so I can't really track down what program it is that is causing it if it's not just an OS issue.

Here's one person who was fortunate enough to find a way to resolve this, albeit without any analysis or cause and effect.
