You did wrong. From my post #6, copy install.wim onto desktop, not in the mount folder.I copied the install.wim file from it, and pasted it in the mount folder.
Read step #2 again.
thanks, my mistake.
but in any case, I ran the health check, and it came out good, so I don't really see the need to run repair dism.
and what about the unrepaired "corrupted files" report from scannow? could it be from windows.old?
this is from kyhi's readme file:
Note: SFC has been known to flag perfectly good files as corrupt, although this does not harm anything other, then the user now thinking the system is corrupt, and resulting in false positive confusion about the corruption
Sometimes sfc will refuse to fix the corrupted file(s) unless you first run:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
and if this command fails then you'd use the procedure in step #6
Since Win 10 1511 update/upgrade a few days ago, can't access my start menu, task bar search sometimes works, sometimes does not, MS store apps like calculator won't run anymore. When I can search for the store default calculator app, I get Microsoft.WindowsCalculator_10.1512.34, which when I click on it tells me "You'll need a new app to open this calculator." Same message if I locate in System32 calc.exe. Can't open the exe.
With the help of these postings, was finally able to mount the ISO for the new version 1511 (10586.29), point to source (install.wim) for DISM, successfully complete the check and restore, unmount, run sfc scan a few times until no integrity errors.
Also re-registered the store apps (all together) using Powershell.
Still having the same problems.
Have many programs installed on my machine, and if at all possible would prefer not to have to do a clean install.
Have been searching online for days, implementing suggested fixes, but no joy.
Would appreciate any additional suggestions to try.
I don't know if this is an option for you, but I solved my problems by rolling back the system, I used a system image that I made at a date that preceded the problems. It seems I had software conflicts. Afterwards, I was able to make all the updates, including the new build, without the problems coming back.
Hi,
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately, the update left me with no restore points and I didn't create a system image.
I've continued to try different suggestions from searching online. Not sure what has helped, but start menu and search in taskbar are coming back intermittently.
One item that I notice when the start menu displays showing the Store app live tiles: is that for tiles that do not work/launch, hovering over them displays 'strange' paths/addresses/names, like this one for the Windows Store tile: @{Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.23.23.0_64_8wekyb3d. If I hover over a store app tile that still works, no 'strange' path/address/name displays. I don't know how to re-configure this. I have already done reinstall all apps using the powershell, but these 'strange' paths/addresses/names have remained.
Maybe there is a way to fix these broken paths, addresses or names?
