    Windows 10 1511 (Nov update) SSD issues (100% usage,low speed,freezes)


    Hello,

    I'm running out of ideas on this one.
    I've been facing multiple issues post Nov update, I already managed to fix corrupted Nvidia drivers and few others.

    My SSD which is my System drive started behaving very strangely.

    Hardware:
    Lenovo Y580
    SSD: Adata SX300 64 GB

    Issues noticed:
    - file transfer (within SSD) speed drops from 300 mb/s to below 1 mb/s - Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
    - 100% disk usage & very high latency while performing minor or major i/o operations. Screenshot taken at the same time as above - Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
    There's no single process seem to be causing this - Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet
    This causes System to freeze for/every few minutes and overall bad performance.

    What I've tried so far:
    - safe mode (same symptoms)
    - disabling Superfetch/Prefetch/Readyboot/BITS/Search
    - disabling Windows Defender
    - running HD Tune & others (no bad sectors, disk condition is ok, SMART shows ok)
    - updating SSD firmware & driver
    - updating windows AHCI driver
    - disabling MSI mode (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083595)
    - disabling file indexing & defrag
    - removing all recent Windows updates (Nov update cannot be rolled back)
    - running sfc & dism (found only minor errors related to GPU driver), chdsk is ok


    Did anyone notice antyhing similar?
    Any ideas? Do you think it's hardware or software related?

    Hi, another member found Resplendence's LatencyMon helpful in exploring issues with respect to an SSD related problem.
    "High (millions in fact) ISR and DPC values within a short time could mean a bad driver."

    Do you note any unusual CPU activity?

    You may wish to check the driver is up to date.

    The Nov 10586 update has caused various problems, one or two of which are thought not presently fixable from what I've read, the mechanism being that of a new Windows installation. Which also means you can revert to the previous one.. Settings, recovery, 'Go back to an earlier build'

    Yeah, but try explaining this to me:
    (FireFox) 'Post Reply' (I click that first time on boot-up) & Screen goes black, restarts my PC.
    (Loaded up a Game on second boot-up) FireFox Open too, Screen Freezes (I have to manually restart the PC)
    This is a really annoying Error / Problem / Bug, and I can't stand it. I feel like it won't be fixed ever D:

    Hi, ok, new symptoms to your original post. If that happened to me, I think I'd
    - try to create a disk image of the current state (probably using a boot disk given the range of symptoms)
    - try to get as much information as I can about what's happening
    - as you have, try what seems reasonable
    - revert to a working state (assuming this was a PC I needed or wanted to use).

    So,
    Is your AV/Firewall working? If damaged, as some are by the upgrade, this could interfere with anything.
    (But it sounds like you may not have a 3rd party AV as you mention Windows Defender - which reverts to a working state if disabled by normal means in Win 10).

    "100% disk usage & very high latency" -
    Do you have a driver called "intel rapid storage driver"? Consider checking the version carefully.

    Have a look at which processes are related to the excessive disk activity using the task manager.
    For a more detailed report, run Sysinternals Process Monitor and capture such an event.

    I'm going to guess somehow there's a driver issue here. But it's only a guess, based on one or two examples I've seen.
