    Windows Update Cleanup taking ages

I clicked the button to include Windows Update Cleanup to recover a few Gb of HD space. It's been going for about 4hrs so far with seemingly little signs of progress.

Could I cancel and forget about it or let the Cleanup run its course?

I've seen what you've seen many times and let them run their course.
I'd be interested in knowing if Windows.old(1) is still there afterward.

It finished normally after 4.5hrs. Thanks for those who reassured me Windows.old(1) is still there but doesn't bother me

Well, you let it run and it finished. Sometimes cleaning up after an update does this. If it's my consolation, when you've got one of these slow ones, it can also take a long time to cancel...

If you want to get rid of it:

    Open command prompt (admin)

    RD /S /Q %SystemDrive%\windows.old(1)
