Why does Disk Clean-up take forever?

Windows 10.10240 on a 40 GB HDD partition - required to make another 7 GB for upgrade to 10.10586. Deleted a few GB of ISO downloads and then ran Disk Clean-up for about 400MB.

So far it has taken about twice as long to do the clean up as it will to complete the upgrade, and it's only 2/3 cleaned.

    Tedious to say the least.

I am glad I am not the only one who finds the native Disk Cleanup taking forever to run.
That is why I use Ccleaner for about 2 years now.

Disk cleanup on build 10586 is slightly faster.

Answer: Hard Drives 2 Seagate 500 GBs, Maxtor 300GB, WD160 all rescued from old Sky and NTL STB throwouts.

But seriously see this thread: Answer: Why it can take Disk Cleanup so long

Try this: Settings, System, Storage, Free Up Space Now. Much faster than Disk Cleanup. Storage Sense (immediately above Free Up Space Now) will also do it automatically.

It's only much faster because it clean less.

For a really good cleanup tool, look for cleanmgr+ -- it's freeware and works really well.

It depends when you run "DiskCLeanup". Windows will normally run the dism cleanup of WinSxS in the background and most people don't know its running, but if you run Diskcleanup before the background task has run, then cleanup has to do it. SO sometimes it runs real fast, sometimes not so Fast !

I use Glary Utilities. It does deep cleaning in 15 seconds. It recovered 3 Gb of space from Windows Updates
