Okay, go back to the topic.
I just found that the CPU meter in my post#23 will disappear when I click on the Show desktop button at the end of the notification area.

I can't help you there as I do not use it.

The one mentioned below, which you might use, will also disappear when you click on the Show desktop button.

    Hi guys

Just transitioned to Windows 10. Am very much used to Windows 7 (skipped over 8 / 8.1). Anyway I know Desktop Gadgets are gone but what I really liked about 7 was having them in the upper right of my desktop. Especially handy was the default CPU meter. I literally just wanted a quick look to see what CPU resources and RAM resources were being used. Can I get that back in Windows 10? Is there something in the store (unfortunately work pc is locked down so I cannot browse it)? Even if it is embedded in the start menu/live tiles area then that is fine. I just want something akin to the old very simple CPU meter.

    Cheers

MS stpopped supporting Gadgets as they were a security risk as some had internet access and this created an entry point for hackers.

You might find Rainmeter to be what you're looking for.
Works perfectly for me, thanks! You can even make it show network usage!

I've been using 8GadgetPack since it first came out, and have corresponded with its developer, Helmut Buhler, several times to share bug/gotcha information for Insider Preview builds. It is a solid, usable way to bring gadgets back. I've researched the so-called security leaks that gadgets are supposed to pose, and have found no exploits related to the gadgets I use myself: CPU Meter, Network Meter, Clock, and Control System. Great stuff, and worth sending Mr. Buhler a small donation by way of support and affirmation. I did!
