Dual boot startup takes long time

Started with a dual boot Windows 7 pro / XP HP Elite 8300. Upgraded Windows 7 to 10 and now it seems to take forever for the boot menu to show up. I can hit restart, it shuts down then just sits there doing nothing for several minutes. No hard drive activity, no video just the power light. Then it looks like it reboots and finally displays the boot menu.

With Windows 7 it went through the normal boot process and displayed the boot menu without the dead-in-the-water pause. Any ideas on the reason for the pause?

    Dual/Triple Boot

    XP, Win7 x64 Pro, Win10 x64 Pro

I triple boot XP/7/10 on a custom PC, dual boot 7/10 on my laptop. Installing required nothing special but on the PC the boot was a bit doggy (selecting one or the other OS sometimes did not work).

I used the EasyBCD "repair" option and smooth sailing since. If you are interested in trying, go to EasyBCD and scroll down the page to the FREE edition. Launch the app and in the left pane select BCD Backup/Repair, then select re-create/repair boot files.

EasyBCD will also show you the various bootloader paths, boot menu entries, etc. that might point you to the delay.
