    Explorer.exe crashing alot

    Hello All

Just recently started using Windows Defender/Windows Security in 1809, decided today to clean up Music folder, for some reason though in middle of working on cleaning up some empty folders, explorer.exe crashes and restarts. Then i have to remember where i was

Any ideas why this is happening? is it related to left over Avast stuff that i though i got fully rid of? Should i do a system reset soon of my Intel I7 Desktop?

Could you please click on the "view technical details" of the explorer.exe crash reported in the Reliability History monitor and paste those into the thread.

Also, I noticed you're using "Pro" version, so I have to ask if you modified the start layout using the Group Policy" editor?

Your Exception Error Code 0xc0000005 is outlined here:

Exception Error Code 0xc0000005 Fixed on Windows 7 & 10

Possible causes are outlined in the link provided. You also hinted that it may be left over Avast files but the linked article suggests many other causes of the broad error exception code 0xc0000005.

Ok reads that over, runs sfc /scannow later on here, Checks memory later on with memtest86 (once find a flash drive to put it on), and run full virus scan to make sure clean fully, Just switched back to Defender recently, i probably switch Antivirus programs way too much, will just pick 1 and stick with that one

Those are all very good ideas and were my next suggestions because I think you had a conflicting resource problem with possibly having two antivirus programs concurrently running or their is a hardware conflict of some sort.

Yeah well i uninstalled Avast Free via Add/Remove, ran it's removal tool in safe mode, deleted folders manuallly all i could find... oh well clean install planned whenever 1903 Releases, then will decide on Antivirus program for sure then, meanwhile checks everything out with sfc/scannow, and memtest86, and if those pass fine, then look at other things and go from there

Doing full virus scan now with Defender, will check with Malwarebytes Free later on as well, maybe even Eset online scan--i'll make sure it's really clean virus/malware wise

I would be interested to know what caused Explorer to crash with that particular exception code in your case; so looking forward to what you find out.

Yeah, hopefully it is something simple that a Malware program can catch and prevent the bugger from crashing Explorer.
