    FYI correct command is:
    RD /q /s windows.old (or windows.old(1), etc.)
...well, yahhh... if you insist on doing it from the CLI

Seriously, that also doesn't work for me. Tried it several times, safe mode and regular, before and after TAKEOWN and CACLS and whatnot. Nada.

It will, and has, gotten stubborn at times, I agree. 99.9%, it works. But, then again, Windows works 99.9% of the time, too.

    Oh wow.

    Wow wow wow - I managed to delete it :) :) :)

Created a new user with Admin rights - logged out - logged in as that user, and used FilExile (OSS utility) to delete DropBox complete with contents.

    Yippie-Ki-Yea, MotherFriendlyPerson. Gotcha.

My sincerest thanks to OP of 4 years ago with the idea of drag-dropping those folders. It may not have been "the" solution, but thanks to until reading that post I was going to give up and live with it.
