ok that was weird. I went into the Services and found the svchost.exe file that was taking 49% of my cpu and ended it. Now all is working fine and I am back to 1% - 10% cpu usage.
I don't know unless there was a process that was stuck and never ended. I also clicked the windows update and it checked in a few seconds and I got no error.
Knock on wood that it stays there. I will wait and see.
Greatly appreciate all your patience and help.
PS. yes I have disabled a few of the startup applications I don't need and tomorrow I will uninstall some that I can do without.

    thanks
    cheers
I would say disabling it not a solution, as may just start again.

You're welcome and glad to hear that helped.
If the problem does return, post pack with what Service(s) uses a lot of CPU, and hopefully someone here can help find a fix.

True, but by disabling auto-start programs it could help find the culprit program(s).
Then look for a solution to those programs.

Personally, i disable anything that is absolutely not needed (by me) on every startup.
I have seen many programs that set things to auto-start when they are installed or updated.
99% of the time these auto start programs and services don't need to always run.
They work just fine when i manually start the program.

yes, i had mentioned that at beginning about startups to thread starter. We just do not know what was doing it which makes me think may not be resolved, seen service host to run more then one service. Good link i gave at beginning too.

Greatly appreciate the help you both gave me. I have made a note and pasted the info in case I need reference another time.
Started my computer this morning and when everything loaded for first time I am at 2-7% which is normal I assume. Today after work I shall take your advice and see what is not necessary to be running at startup.
The only thing I can think of what happened was that some instances didn't shut down after completed. Yesterday I spent a lot of time transferring files from my internal 1TB drive to several of my USB TB drives. There were times when I had several instances of files copying to different drives and they were large files. I would come back an hour later and transfer more.
That was the only thing I done with the computer yesterday so maybe that was it.
I will still monitor the Task Manager to see how it is performing and wait a few days before marking this thread as solved.

    cheers

Unless had anything also to do with Windows updates an issue or not completing. Did you keep those drives connected even though you were not finished ? See how it goes, your welcome.

All the files transferred and completed while the drives were open. It was not until about 20 mins after that I logged into my online game and could not move my character because of lag which was actually the high cpu usage. I shut the usb drives off when I noticed the high cpu usage but that didn't change anything. I am only guessing that it was something didn't close and maybe like you said, it may have been windows update trying to get an update.
I have been working all day plus overtime and just got home and computer is working fine.
I will mark this post as solved for now.
    Thank you all again

I understand, can leave it open this post for longer. Check if you received windows updates recently. Just still wonder what else it could of been causing this issue, i kind of hate it when do not know even if it was fixed somehow.

@jds63 Yes I am the same way. Even if I knew what caused it and if it was something I done then I would be more careful for sure. With all Windows in general an update can cause havoc for a while if it glitches. So nothing is ruled out when a problem occurs and so many places to look..
