Upgrading to W10; System Restore Options

My PC came with a W8 system image. I generally do a restore to factory settings every few months to keep the PC running clean. Will I be able to do something similar with W10 once I complete the upgrade?

If I wish to do that and maintain activation, will I only be able to do the upgrade from W8 to W10 rather than a complete clean install of W10? To do a clean install of W10 I'd need an activation serial number, right?

I assume that when I complete the upgrade to W10 my factory image will be overwritten?

    Thanks for any advice.

There are a number of 3rd party programs that will allow you to make a system image that you could restore from.

Once you've upgraded to 10 and its activated you can do all the clean installs you want. Just make sure you upgrade and its activated first.

I may be missing something but to do a clean install and then activate it, I'd need an activation serial, right? Which MS doesn't provide unless you buy retail? I'm just using the free download version.

Once you upgrade and its activated the MS servers maintains that record. There will no longer be a key that you keep. Once activated always activated for the life of that machine. If you do a clean install all you'll have to do is skip if it ask for a key and when it's done it will automatically be activated. The key is to make sure you upgrade first and get it activated.

Oh yeah! Didn't think about that at all but it makes everything so much easier.

Restore options broken ?
When we upgraded Win 7 to Win 8, the restore/repair options, not restore points, were broken. Anyone know if the update to Win 10 carried over the problem. Just curious because I image my drives.

System Restore not making restore point before updates.
So why did Microsoft change this? If I remember correctly all previous versions would create a system restore point before doing Microsoft updates. Since 10 installed all updates that come in for me are downloaded and installed without a restore...
