I've found that a lot of websites have ad trackers that run in the background. Some websites have up to 30 trackers. These follow you from website to website, gathering data on where you surf, what you look at, etc for sales purposes. These have revved my pc memory usage up to 50% at times unless I use something to control them. So that may some of the phantom causes of memory usage. Check and see if your PC has a lot of trackers running.

Sorry but thanks for the laugh. I haven't cleaned my firefox history, any of it since 2009. All you need is a privacy filter for adblock & your good to go. Even today my firefox is just about as fast as chrome.
