I have Dell and HP computers, some Win10 and some Win11, running with the default settings [as when first set up] and not experiencing any issues.

You could look at it this way. If your electricity supply is stable, and not subject to surges, interruptions or lightning strikes, then you could leave it connected.

Leaving it in sleep mode means some changes may not be written to the registry, so if an abrupt shutdown occurred, those may be lost.

I forgot to say that my Desktops are on UPS' so power bumps that cost me a motherboard over 20 years ago are not a thing.

    Hello,

The frequency of turning off your computer depends on various factors, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. Let’s explore some considerations:

    1. Convenience: Leaving your PC on overnight can be convenient. If you’re working from home or need quick access to your computer, keeping it on means it’s ready whenever you are. Newer machines with solid-state drives (SSDs) boot up quickly, but older systems might benefit from staying on overnight.

    2. Updates and Downloads: Scheduling system updates, virus scans, andlarge downloads to run overnight is a good practice. This way, you won’t be interrupted during your work or gaming sessions. If you’ve enabled remote access to your PC, leaving it on allows you to access files while away.

    3. Sleep Mode: Sleep mode seems like a middle ground, but it can be unreliable. Some users experience issues with sleep mode, so shutting down completely might be more reliable.

    4. Temporary Files: Shutting down your computer occasionally (e.g., once a week) helps remove temporary files and keeps your system running smoothly. It’s especially beneficial if you use your computer frequently.

Remember that individual habits and usage patterns play a significant role. If you use your computer multiple times a day, leaving it on might be better. However, if you only use it briefly, consider turning it off. Ultimately, find a balance that suits your needs and helps maintain optimal computer health!

Both of my laptops have been left switched on for weeks at a time (Windows 7 regularly, Windows 10 less so because it starts crashing after a week), the only maintenance being making sure the battery was occasionally being discharged to 50% (or smart-charged at a constant 60% or so), and making sure ventilation out-vents weren't blocked with fuzz. I have dozens of tabs open at any one time, and restarting is an annoyance (or even "not possible", depending on your definition of accomplishing tasks).

I restart as little as possible because I "graze" my laptop(s) regularly, and I want the desktop to be accessible the instant I move the mouse. a blank screensaver gives me the desktop instantly, sleep or modern standby gives me the screen within 1 or 2 seconds

Any electrical appliance left turned on at the mains switch is a fire risk so it's always safest to turn them off. My desktop PC & monitor is always off at the mains when not in use since it only takes a few seconds to boot.

And thank you for your reply.

If you cared to apply a little logic to that- it's a matter of what risk you face and choose to expose yourself to.
I can't take that decision for you.

Nor do you comment as to the stability of the supply in your area... so only you know that. So again, I can't conclude anything for you.
