How often do people reboot?

I run a laptop PC with Windows 11 and a desktop PC with Windows 10. The laptop was originally Windows 10 but I updated it to Windows 11 in December 2021. The desktop was originally Windows 7. I updated it to Windows 10 when it was initially offered an update, about 9 years ago.

My daily driver is the laptop PC with windows 11. I often have several apps running and don't want to disturb them. So I use "hibernate". I just close the lid and walk away. When I open the lid, and poke the power button, everything comes back to the state, before I closed the lid. It only takes about 15-20 seconds and I'm ready to go again. The only time I reboot is after an update. I have KB5036980 waiting to be downloaded and installed. When it is convenient, I will install and reboot.

My desktop PC is on all the time, but the remote mouse and keyboard are off, when not in use. It's not used as much as my laptop PC, so I just let a update install and reboot, whenever it comes along. When I turn the mouse/keyboard back on, and hit the escape button, I'm ready to go. It usually does a update and reboot at night when I am asleep. I never actually see it happen. I only know it updated and rebooted because it's at the login prompt.

I don't much care for Windows 10, but the PC is missing something and won't update to Windows 11. One of these days I may try one of the work arounds and try it on Windows 11. If I break it, that's ok. It served it's purpose. I'll just buy a new one.

I still have a small laptop that runs Windows 3.1. No updates to worry about there. I use it when I need to run in DOS mode and need a real RS-232 port. It's a bit pokey, but still works. I don't have any need for the internet, with that laptop, so it always just runs stand-alone.

I day trade stocks so I restart 2 desktop computers every morning Monday - Friday. The computer that has 2 monitors, the one I browse with when not trading, doesn't get restarted on the weekends unless there is a system update where a restart is required.

I never put either computer to sleep, I just have the monitors power down after 5 minutes after the trading hours have commenced.

I will power down and unplug the computers if there is major lightening from a rain storm expected or if a power outage is possible from a snowstorm.

I have been doing this for more than 8 years with 2 computers. never had a problem with either.
    p.s.....knocking on wood now !!!!

also use a program called Driver Easy which I've found to be decent enough in the past
The view taken in threads on 3rd party driver updaters has consistently been 'DON'T USE THEM ROUTINELY'

This might be a contributory cause of your problems.

Presumably your laptop came with Win 11 and you installed Win 10. You may need then be careful which drivers you install (hint- from the manufacturer's site).

Whilst I agree with you about Win 11 vs Win 10 - although it can be tweaked to look and behave more like'10 in some ways- you'll be aware that update support for Win 10 ends in Oct '25.

My home PCs get shut off every night before bed. My work PC gets rebooted every Monday morning, or when there are updates. My work laptop gets turned off every night before I leave the office.

I have to leave my work PC on all week and on the weekends because I sometimes need VPN access to it. I guess I could reboot it remotely, but I am afraid that I might lose contact at a crucial time should it not come back.
