    Slow Boot Issue with Dad's Computer

    Dear TenForums Community,

    I am reaching out to seek assistance with a persistent issue that I've been encountering with my dad's computer (Windows 10 64bit 19045 with all the updates).

    The problem lies in its exceedingly slow boot time, occurring just before the login screen appears (2 or 3 minutes) Despite my efforts to troubleshoot, including running chkdsk, sfc scannow, and dism clean to ensure the integrity of the file system and system files, the issue persists. Frustratingly, I have been unable to identify the root cause.

    In my search for solutions, I came across discussions on this forum regarding the use of the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit for similar issues.

    I have conducted a first level triage of the boot process using Windows Performance Recorder. However, upon opening the log with the analyzer, I find myself at a loss in pinpointing the exact source of the problem.

    I have uploaded the log file for analysis, and I would be immensely grateful if anyone from the community could lend their expertise and provide insights or solutions. Your assistance would be invaluable in resolving this issue and restoring the optimal performance of my dad's computer.

    You can download the log file from the following link (wetransfer): WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free

    Thank you all in advance for your time and support.

    I am not a big genius when it comes to log files, so I can't comment on those, but I had a similar problem with a laptop recently. It turned out to be a failing boot drive. The lappy would take almost five minutes to boot and was very sluggish when loading programs. Changing the hard drive out fixed the problem for me.

    When you do get it to boot, do your apps load slowly?

    @Catnip

    Hello, no, everything is really fast: software, games, videos, only problem is boot time.

    Did you check the Taskmanager>Startup and deaktivated the garbage?
    I believe that it's the NVDisplay.Container.exe.

    One thing with the booting is that first the computer reads the BIOS to determine what resources are available then the Operating System starts loading, reads the BIOS so as to know about those resources and load drivers necessary to run things. If problems exist between pressing the power button and getting to the OS login I'd start looking at what is connected to the computer that didn't originally come with it such as USB drives, mouse, keyboard, etc., then unplug those not necessary to run the OS. If there's an improvement then try to diagnose which is causing the issue. I have seen USB drives slow things down but then I have the time to wait as I'll want access to those drives as soon as things are working. Sometimes a program that's installed will cause issues but usually after the login.
