Internal HDD Showing as Dynamic- Import Failed

    Hello,

Old computer, updated with SSD OS drive two years ago and kept my WD Caviar Black from 2010ish as a storage drive.

    Build 19045.4046

I would get weird hiccups occasionally where desktop shortcuts were not present for apps installed on the HDD and I was suspect the HDD was failing.

Yesterday I booted up and found all of my shortcuts OK, however none of the partitions of the HDD were showing in File Explorer. HDD shows in Device Manager, Disk Manager says it is a Dynamic Disk, the Import Failed, and Reactivating Disk does nothing.

Has the HDD finally croaked?? All attempts have been without luck.

I was hoping to uninstall the 22H2 update and see if anything would be remedied but haven't wandered down that path just yet.

Any help, or reassurance that the HDD is kaput, would be greatly appreciated. I have many many hours worth of 3D modeling on this drive and shame on me for ignoring the signs of failure this long!!!

Unfortunately electronics are born to die at some point and HDDs have gotten much better than what I experienced back in '94 when I started building/repairing computers. Your HDD does exhibit signs of impending failure so the best thing to do is try to get data off onto an External USB drive, either HDD or SSD. 1TB seems to be more common in local stores now. And if the data is critical, use of a company such as Ontrack [one I've had experience with] may need to be contacted, usually send the drive to them for diagnosing then recovering, the diagnose fee applies to the recover.

    So basically I'm screwed.

Ugh. So much music and other projects lost if so.

Been there, done that. Last failure I had was an HDD in a self-powered USB case and the interface in the case failed, lost everything on it.
