Didn't Custom Install used to be called Repair Install?
    Steve,

    No.
    They are entirely different.

A Repair install, as you know, is run from within Windows and just replaces Windows system files.
It is not an installation but a file replacement, a repair.

Clean installs & Custom installs are similar. The tutorials contain explanations.
A Clean install installs Windows onto a disk.
A Custom install installs Windows onto a specific partition of a disk. It is just-about like having a Clean install onto that partition.
The only time I have run a Custom install was when I set up a dual-boot years ago.

I have always regarded a custom install as not formatting the target partition. Which retains anything that was previously on it. To avoid clashing, any pre existing windows namespace folders are moved into a windows.old folder.

Got it fixed. I removed a Windows update. Rebooted and booted normally.
What got me in trouble was running a Microsoft app called PC HealthCheck. It found something, it fixed it, then rebooted, and got the BSOD. Odd.
    Thanks for all the help.
I have a new issue so will start another thread.

    are you sure
    doesnt seem like it

if you're able to uninstall a w update, then it was likely the update
