Don't install both Malawarebytes and AVG. Having more than one antivirus program can cause problems.

it won't hurt if they are the free versions as those are only on demand just don't run them at the same time.

After much restarting and virus checking (safe mode an normal) - I've only managed to create the windows on USB to use as fresh installation.

    It all now works beautifully.

Now to load on Malawarebyte, AVG perhaps. Also the other PC programs you mentioned to keep PC nice and clean

Thank you all for your help!
Without getting to involved install this in your browser. This will protect you quite far if you listen to it, so anytime it tells you not to continue then don't, its not perfect sometimes it is wrong but if you don't know then just follow what it says. There is plenty of other areas you could cover but that is more involved.

Keeping a computer safe is a 10 step program so to relay all that is a lot of work. Just use Windows Defender as your real time protection unless you want to sub to a paid one and make sure its always up to date.
