My wife's PC (win 10, 22H2) is awfully slow. Every single app on the task bar takes about 10 seconds to react and then it takes another 10 to 15 seconds until it's ready to be used. I ran a defrag but it didn't make a difference. Are there any suggestions where I could start looking? She's breathing down my neck.
More than once I have seen this caused by a failing HDD. It can be a secondary HDD, not necessarily the one with the operating system. Unplug everything but drive "C" and see what happens. Then do a chkdsk on drive C if problem persists. Defrag has never that critical in my experience.

Always loading very fast, i.e., about 8 seconds from cold boot.
Since windows 10 is installed, boot time is about 20 seconds and desktop icons take some time to refresh and load their images.
