    Personally I’d back up all her files and install a new, bigger ssd

    Probably quicker than dealing with it in its current state too. Assume she has backups? Then you can keep partitions simple and have a bigger c drive.

    I don't understand why I should install a bigger drive. It's a 1TB drive, isn't that big enough? Enlarging C to 200 GB ought to be good enough, or?

    Sorry I didn't look at the photo properly. So C drive isn't very big and E drive is very big. Maybe a faster 1tb then? Assuming it's not an ssd already? Personally I'd just have a big c drive.

    Your C: partition still have a lot of free space. Resizing partitions is a risky task, and you don't need to. You don't need to do anything

    We are suggesting a SSD because of it's speed. A SATA SSD is almost 5 times faster than a HDD. It will make your computer boot in seconds rather than in minutes an programs opens at a blink of an eye. You install the SSD and clone only the EFI, MSR, C: and the Recovery partition. The E: partition remains on the HDD
    And you don't need a big SSD. A 256G is more than you need and it cost about US$ 25.
    256G SATA SSD
    To have an idea, this is an old laptop that I installed a small SSD along with the HDD.

    Ok, that seems to be a solution.
    However, the PC was running reasonable fast as recent as about 6 months ago. Something inside must have changed at that time.

    @esebm
    Just press the wrong key and your problem is solved. You will loose everything! Shall we bet?

    You're being dramatic. The computer is working for years the way it is and to launch a Factory Restore requires more than pressing one button.

    How do you know. It depends on the UEFI-Settings!

    If I clone to a new SSD the mysterious problem that the PC seems to have might be cloned over, right? And then what?
    Probably need to install win 10 from scratch, right?

    Not mandatory.
    Anyway it will run much better.

    Download, extract and run HD sentinel. It's free to try.
