    Windows 10 Install problem

I have installed windows 10 on my Dell Vistro 3670 several times and the same thing happens every time. Last night the install remained stable. I installed applications and restarted the computer several times and it seemed stable enough, until this morning when I connected the internet cable. It started to freeze and once again when I restarted the computer it would not boot up. I can hear the windows sound bit all I see is a black screen.

Welcome to the forum. You don't give us much to go on not knowing the specs. If you hear the windows load sound it sounds like it's working ok but either the monitor is dead or video card try reseating the video card check video cable ideally the monitor needs to be connected to another pc to make sure it's working

    Welcome to tenforums.

If it's not a simple connection issue/monitor problem then you need to consider checking your hardware.

Have you checked the disk and RAM?

To check the disk you could:
    a. remove disk
    b. connect to other PC as a USB disk
    c. run a check using a suitable 3rd party program

Otherwise- but you need to be able to see something on the screen of course first!
    a. You could create a live boot disk on another PC (Google if unfamiliar)
    b. Boot the problem PC from that (if it will).
    c. If it does, then run a disk check, and also a RAM check.

Thank you for the reply. Not sure what addl information you need. I ran the dskchk and the memory diagnostic and it said no problems detected. It's a new 2 TB hard disk that I installed. The other one tested bad so I replaced it.

I have a Dell Vostro 3670 and I'm running windows 10. I also removed the hard drive and installed it on a different computer and it worked fine. I transferred the hard drive back to the Dell desktop computer and it remained stable overnight. However, once i connected the internet cable after a few minutes the screen starts flickering and then it freezes.

I don't believe the monitor is bad. I installed windows overnight, have not connected the internet cable, and its been stable. I know that once i hook up the cable it will freeze up again and when I restart it the wi dows will not load.

Thanks. I'll assume the disk is good.. but note that chkdsk (which its what I assume you ran) is not a whole disk test. For that you need to check SMART parameters- typically with a third party program e.g. Crystal Diskinfo, Hard Disk Sentinel.

    We can leave that aside.

Two quick checks you can run:
    Can you run/boot stably into
    a. SAFE MODE (no networking)
    and then
    b. SAFE MODE (with networking)?

If you can't boot with cable connected, then boot without the ethernet cable for comparison.

the poster somehow resolved this, but there's nothing specific that says how.

    - suspects cable - no.. then problem solved:
Alright, so since the night of yesterday(17th Aug) the problem seems to have stopped. This is really weird, it has abruptly stopped with no solid reason behind it.

I haven't done anything special. Disabled IPv6, and deleted my old mobile broadband connection in the Network and Sharing Centre.

No idea which one of these things did the trick
Could the problem be mechanical somehow? Stress on a connector directly mounted on the card inside the PC?

    You can also try this.
Start troubleshooting issues related to the internet.

    Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Others

Reset network adapter. But first, if there is the ethernet adapter driver in the control panel under installed program, uninstall it (the same if there is wifi driver): Reset Network Adapters in Windows 10

Go to the drivers page of your computer/motherboard and download install the latest ethernet driver. If the ethernet driver is the same as the one installed by default during the clean installation, install an earlier version.

For me you have a hardware problem with the ethernet connector on the motherboard.
If still under warranty, use the warranty, or use a USB wifi network adapter.

After the clean installation, download and install the latest driver from your computer's page or an older version if the default Windows driver is identical.

    Windows 10 Crashing with Ethernet

I did the network reset after reinstalling windows 10 and updated the Dell firmware for my computer. It gave me the option to run a diagnostic test on the system and I got the following test result:

    Usb status, FAILURE, USB status
Dell Wireless 10707 802.11b|g|n (2.4GHZ) FAILURE, Wireless Network Card

I hit the learn more option and it started flickering again and once again it froze
