Windows crashing with no error code in Event Viewer

Hi folks, thanks for taking a look at this! I've been trying to get a friend's computer back up and running after its water cooling system died out.

I installed a Corsair H60x RGB Elite which does seem to be working, but I'm finding that the computer freezes after a few minutes of playing most games. I've checked system entries in the event viewer but can't find anything that correlates, usually there are no entries from the time the computer freezes.

It seems like the freezing occurs most often when the computer is hotter, but it also happens when it's not overheating. When it happens, the screen just freezes entirely and won't respond.

Steps I've taken to resolve this issue:

    Flashed motherboard BIOS
    Installed latest GPU driver
    Installed latest Windows Update

This is my first time working on a computer in this capacity, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Each instance of 'Windows was not shut down properly' were the result of hard resets I had to perform after the computer froze.

It looks like updates end up getting installed a bit after a crash, not sure how there could be a relationship there.

In Reliability History, left click on the first entry in the Critical Events section.
Then RIGHT click on that selection and a box should appear---view technical details---,left click on it and a report should appear informing you the report was sent to Microsoft.
The lines ---problem event name---and---problem application name[or Error Code Number ]will give searchable information to identify the problem.Use them combined not singly.

Hi, there are many threads available on freezing issues.

Here's a current one: please read carefully.
PC freezes after minutes, but will be stable when underclocked?

You may find some ideas, rather than have all these repeated here again for you as a separate case.

Please keep a note of each step you take and the outcome, then post back with what you've tried.
There is no easy diagnostic approach.

Thanks so much for the responses! I did some searching through the conversation that dalchina posted and noticed the suggestion to try swapping out memory. I've done some testing with another set of DDR4 RAM I had and I'm not seeing the same freezing after doing this. It looks like I have a solution, thanks again!

glad to hear it wasn't too major..

Occasionally it seems even RAM tests (there are many possible permutations and combinations of course) may not find anything, and it somes down to trial and error and elimination.
