The CCleaner .exe downloaded from Piroform's official website does indeed now install these unwanted programs , it is not a case of unchecking any check boxes for added crap . A Piriform forum Administrator told me directly that when downloading the exe program you cannot opt out of these unwanted toolbars .
This was not always the case , Piriform use to never install additional crap , now it most certainly does and most install the portable version because that is what i was told to use to avoid the crap , again by a Piriform forum administrator.
I don't know what to say to Old Mike because the things he is talking about with the removal options and check boxes with Eset do not exist . Eset is one of the most recommended scanners at "Bleeping Computer" and other malware removal help forums for years now because it finds things other scanners never do .
Got to know how to use it though
Here's what I do for cleaning my PC about every 2 weeks.
Go to programs & features - sort by date. Look for anything I didn't install or don't want anymore.
Run windows disc cleanup
Follow up with CCleaner Pro
Run a quick scan with BitDefender
Optimize all of my imported images from my phone with jpegmini for jpegs, pnggauntlet for pngs & gifmicro for gifs
Finally I finish up with a Defrag with Piriform Defraggler
I would and I do wait for AV companies to get their stuff together to work on W10 properly, right now results are pretty sketchy. Windows Defender is getting much better too, so with a bit more caution online it's very acceptable. It's updating 5 - 10 times a day, so MS must be working hard on it. To say nothing about WD being much "lighter" than full blown AV protection systems.
OK , here are the facts gentlemen :

As of about the last six months to a year CCleaner is now bundled with a toolbar that ESET is correctly blocking as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) which is kind of ironic that a cleaner program brings garbage when installed.
You can download CCLeaner Slim which is just the installer and not the toolbar please note that Piriform releases the slim version one week after the Standard version. It is possible that no download link is available for the Slim version during that gap time.
I think the latest was today so give it about a week then do a search for "CCLeaner Slim".
@SweX.. ahh we collide on this one, LOL
I am not saying you made them up but i think we must be using two different versions, never heard or saw those options. Regarding CCleaner, Eset is the ONLY scanner that will detect these toolbars .
There is nothing you can opt out of , they will install no matter what if you don't go the portable route.
Ok maybe we are misunderstanding one another fredc I went to Esets web site downloaded what they told me was their online scanner, installed it, did not try to opt out of anything, I WANTED it to run. During the running of ESET scanning my hd is when I saw what it was reporting to me, as it was scanning. Never found any problems, took 20 mins to scan my ssd, never saw the other active anti-malware program running, and when it finished, their WAS a Checkbox in lower left hand Connor, to remove itself after closing......THAT was the choice it gave me. I closed it, and it only removed some of itself left pieces of itself all over my drive and registry....that IS a FACT. no big deal as I am used to cleaning up left over crap after a uninstall of a program. But Eset gave my computer a clean bill of health, which I expected, just didn't seem to report everything correctly is all.
Paste a link to the Eset program you are talking about......just make sure its ON Esets web site, I'll D/l it from the link you show me.....and run it again.....
Here are the exact settings you must check for detection of CCleaner toolbars.
