Expressions for my Windows 10 experience so far: faster, smooth, solid, nice features, getting used to the new settings screens (easier in some ways), GREAT start menu, easier to get around, all apps happy (including XP Hyper-V VM)...in summary: happy camper.

After exactly 30 days i have to admit 8.1 is way faster than 10 Hands

After using Win10 for several months now, I kinda have to agree with you on that.. Am on the fence to rather to downgrade to Win8.1 or stay with Win10 and hope for some fixes soon.

I have an AMD ASUS MB, AMD 4 core 3G CPU, as others mentioned, don't really like the limited control over things that weren't that way in earlier editions of windows.

For me no noticeable difference from W10 x64 Home, and Win7 x64 Home Premium. Close to the same boot time, I've had an SSD for years so around 30 seconds for both. If 10 had aero and no tiles on the start menu I wouldn't know the difference.

My subjective impression is that things are a little more snappy under 10 as opposed to 7. Nothing objective with which to back that up.

One thing I'm particularly happy about. Under Windows 7 on this machine my audio always had a problem (movies, music etc...) with a periodic stutter/buzz that I never was able to sort out. I had just learned to live with it. Completely fixed after upgrading to 10.

I like some of 10's built in stuff for which I was using third party under 7. The Photos App for instance has enough basic editing capabilities that I'm happy using it for day to day image handling So I'm not using Picasa. I like the Backup Using File History capability so I'm not using SyncBack for that.

It may be dumb but growing up on Star Trek TOS (yes I'm that old) Cortana answers a childhood dream. The recognition rate is superb and I find myself using it more and more.

Overall I'm very pleased. Responsiveness is at least as good as it was on 7 if not better. I've gained some features I like and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

    win 7 and win 10

My first post on this forum.

My new ASUS R557L laptop was on win 8.1 and now I have installed win 10 on it. I think both OS is very fast in startup and shutdown but I like the UI on win 10 better.

My ACER Aspire M3920 desktop was on win 7 before I installed win 10. On this computer I could clearly see a big difference in startup/shutdown speed. Also in daily use win 10 was faster. Unfortunately in win 10 I could not shutdown my computer completely. I had to use forced shutdown and it was no way it would wake up from sleep and hibernate mode. Had to use forced shutdown also in this case.

So, my ACER desktop is now back on win 7 again and will maybe wait until next big update from Microsoft to see if they have fixed the shutdown issue.
    I have my doubt.

One thing to factor in is that immediately after installation, the computer spends quite a bit of time rebuilding indexes, and I believe the Installer also spends time trying to compress updates (although there shouldn't be too many of these). So you may find the peak speed is achieved when it was been run for a few days and settled down.
Indeed and you have to let it do it's thing.

Same here! Everything works very well and the system runs fast! Not a single BSOD or "lock up" so far...

My Laptop is flying with Wds 10... after disable/uninstall whole lot of apps/cortana/onedrive/Xbox/Edge/...
And with Star8/bypass lock screen ... it boots to desktop in few seconds .
Then again , It's not fair to compare normal HDD to SSD ..
