    Slow Laptop

    Hello folks!!
This old hen needs some help!

Would appreciate some suggestions to perk up a W10 Lenovo laptop with a free program. Is CCleaner still an option, or is there something better?

    Thank you in advance.

Hi, need lots of information to be able to understand your situation. The question is to vague to even guess at present.

This laptop is a Lenovo t440s (see my specs). It boots to lock screen in about 8s. No clean install since the initial installation about 6 years ago and still as fast as ever. It's second hand, getting on for 9 years old.

    1. What is the practical problem you are experiencing? In what way or ways is the laptop slow? Please give timings for illustration.

Start with how long a cold boot takes to the lock screen being displayed.

    2. Specs of your laptop.
Model, approx age, disk type, RAM... Tutorial available if needed. Program Speccy (free) can help.

    3. Log in, wait 3 minutes, do not launch additional programs.
Post a screenshot of your task manager thus, organising columns showing high usage high to low by clicking on the appropriate column header.

    4. To post screenshots use the forum feature to upload png/jpg.. thus:

    5. How much free space do you have on C: ?

    6. Have you ever changed page file settings from default?

    7. You can start by running Disk Clean-up
Open and Use Disk Cleanup in Windows 10
Beware of inappropriate use of 3rd party clean-up tools. Cautious, selective and informed use can be beneficial.

    8. Have you ever used registry cleaners or driver updating tools?

    9. The forum clearly prompted you for your full build number- winver. Why? So we don't have to keep on asking.

    Thanks.

Thanks. Used to work here, years ago. Now I'm 80 years old, and the ol' brains are not the same.
Neither is this forum. Brink and others were always so ready to help.

Will go check out the "For Dummies" forum elsewhere.

    Have a great day.

    Optimize Performance of Windows 10

My post is entirely relevant to your situation. We cannot see your PC, so need data to help you.

I'm sorry you feel it necessary to make such a comment.

You will understand then that I have therefore added you to my ignore list.
@Brink - seems cottonball will only accept help from such as you. Clearly I'm not up to her standards. Thanks.

    Hello CB,

The tutorial below that dalchina posted is a good start to help improve the performance.

@CB, if you want i can take a look at your problem & see if there is any Virus or just junk clogging it up to slow it down ! @dalchina, as Brink said it is a good start ! I can have you run some programs if you are interested which usually helps slow computers ?? Let me know if you are interested !!

My apology if I offended anyone. My sense of humor has always been rather sarcastic.

What you are asking me to do is way beyond my capabilities. Strokes, heart attacks, and some other issues have taken a toll on my cognitive abilities. All I do with my laptop is email, some simple google searching, some shopping at places I am familiar with, and looking at folk and Christmas art at certain art places which are safe. I like to paint. Other than the above, if things go beyond my small world, I get lost.

I came here because the website came up in my mind, and brought a smile to my face. Those Windows 7 issues were my good ol' days!

Thanks everyone trying to help me. I appreciate your efforts, but do not want to waste your time.

    @cottonball

I remember you from sevenforums. You were pretty much one of the top malware removal experts there.

Here's some ideas. Just pick the parts that you are comfortable with:
