    Desktop picture Background Issue please?

    Hello everybody.

I have a collection of Desktop pictures which i have had for Years which I keep on an External floppy Disk and change every few Days or so.

Now when I open a Picture and select set as Background it does not work.

Obviously I've upset something In Windows 10 somewhere. Any help please?

I am glad you are still embracing ancient technology, why don't you have these pictures on your Hard Drive? By all means, keep a backup of your pictures on a disk, but you are aware then even Floppy Disks fail?
First browse to your A: Floppy Drive to see if you can still read the disk. If so, please copy these pictures to a folder in your Pictures folder.
For a test, pick any picture from your Pictures folder and see if you can right click and choose set as desktop background

Right click the Desktop, choose Personalize/Background take the drop down menu and choose Picture. Browse it to the folder where you saved your Background pictures, select the picture you want as your background image.
If you want a rotating pictures for you background choose Slide Show and set the time to change between pictures.

OK, Floppies are not a good place for long term storage. We strongly suggest a USB HDD, A USB Flash Drive is also a good alternative, but also not good for long term storage.
You didn't mention, after following the suggestions, if you were still having an issue with changing your Background image?
Have you changed any Windows Themes?

You can also open a command prompt as Admin and type
SFC /scannow and press Enter. This will replace any missing system files.

Hi spunk. I also have these on 2 external Hard Drives.

I haven't changed anything recently that I'm aware of and nothings changed regarding changing the desktop picture.

    Many thanks

and change every few Days or so.
    - which implies whatever happened to affect this occurred at most a few days ago.

Do you have a suitable System Restore point available?
If so, Before using one, run the scan (on the SR dialogue) to see what will be affected, and note that.

Then try using the SR point and see if you can change the picture.

SR's great- when it works, and you have a suitable restore point.

What did the scan show? If it was somehow update-related, the update will recur..

Hi dalchina, Your name is unusual, where are you from.

I didn't get a report, when I clicked on S.R. I was given the option of repairing the System.

When Windows came back to the desktop and I tried putting my picture back on the desktop It worked.

    Thanks

    Paul.

Presumably after starting the scan you would have seen:
    Desktop picture Background Issue please?-1.jpg

then this contained nothing in the boxes:
    Desktop picture Background Issue please?-2.jpg

Lacking that, presumably some registry change was made that caused the problem.

My user name? At the time I'd spent some years teaching at a couple of universities in China- when things were rather different..
