How do i make my pc run normal/fast again

    Hello.

my pc is from Aug. 12 22 and its been running fast and stable most of the time since then, but then since friday the 7th of July its been getting slower and slower and yesterday and today to the point where i sometimes cant even use Mozilla Firefox, its also very slow in Google Chrome (I get something with pages not responding), it takes forever to open up documents, my pc and to turn off the pc etc. And then now all of a sudden its fast again, its very weird and annoying. I have a backup from the 29th of June i could use, but there is some stuff that isnt backed up, so im hoping there is another solution ? Ive been running Windows Defender and its not finding any viruses.

    Hi, basics:
    Check your disks- Crystal Diskinfo.
How much free space do you have on C: ?
If both are ok, from an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk X: /scan
changing X for each of your partitions/drives as appropriate.
Advise if that passes and any failures. Don't post the whole result.

Post a screenshot of your task manager taken about 3 mins after logging in. Organise columns of interest high to low by clicking on the appropriate column header.

In particular, post such a screenshot when your PC is slow.

Potentially could be a marginal PSU, I suppose.

In Crystal Diskinfo it says C is 99% good and D is 100% good ? Could it be because the C drive is at 99% and do you want me to post anything from there ?

on the C drive where Windows is i have 1.71 TB space and on my D drive where i have everything else i have 387 GB space left

or should i go to the next step ?

To perform the above, Copy & Paste the following command into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    Code:

    PowerShell "Get-CimInstance Win32_StartupCommand | Select-Object Name, Command, User, Location | Sort-Object {$_.Name} | Format-Table -Wrap -AutoSize | Out-String -Width 166"

If you want a more detailed output, let me know.

    I hope this helps.

It can be that it is preparing an upgrade to Win 11. Many people here complain that their computer upgraded without warning.

When was the last time you run Disk cleanup (%windir%\system32\cleanmgr.exe)?

    Try a Clean Boot

The second after restart i opened Task Manager and CPU went from 89% down to 9% in a second or something, now as im writing this its down to 4-7%, memory is at around 35-40% and disk where at around 10% but is down to 0% now with 28 windows open in Google Chrome, Spotify, VPN, ZoneAlarm and Intel Driver & Support Assistant

Often it wants to install Windows 11, when im booting up, but im always cancelling it, since i dont want Windows 11 and nothing looks different than usual so it should still be Windows 10 right ?

i never run Disk Cleanup, i guess you want me to do that ?

and a clean boot is the last thing i want to do, unless its necessary, because it would take forever setting Windows up the way i have it set up now, but i guess i could my backup from Macrium Reflect ? Im just scared that i might some virus since my pc is slow and that my external hd with the backup would get infected if i plug it into my pc ?

    Good- no repeat failed updates.

Often it wants to install Windows 11
That's something you shouldn't be experiencing as (theoretically) it's opt-in only. However, some find it just tries to upgrade.

To stay on your current Win 10 build (and so not get Win 11) use Options 2 or 3 from
How to Specify Target Feature Update Version in Windows 10

    - from the huge searchable Tutorials section - do have a look.

If that doesn't help because an upgrade has already been downloaded, you might try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

    or see e.g.
How to stop upgrade Windows 11 automatically
    for ideas.

On a clean boot you disable the startup programs to see if one of them is stuck on start. Takes 10 sec to set. To set it back to the way it was takes another 10 sec. Read the tutorial.
